Quality Technician


I. Position Summary:

    Part of a team that supports compliance with Quality Control requirements. Inspects components, assemblies and finished products to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and quality standards. Coordinates data for the department by developing and maintaining product certification records, managing customer documentation requests, vendor non-conformance notifications, and quality system document control. Works closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Receiving, Manufacturing and other technicians. Daily assignments will shift accordingly with a focus on specific functions below.
II. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Audits production methods to ensure compliance with quality standards or to correct deficiencies.
  • Support customer inquiries for documents related to product compliance.
  • Maintains files, records, documentation and certification database.
  • Supports the Supplier Quality Excellence Program through proper data collection into the PLM (Product Lifecycle Manager) software and issues department reports for suppliers.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activity to drive root cause analysis of non-conformity identified in processes.
  • Conducts inspections of goods received using blueprints, schematics or other drawings to ensure there are no deficiencies in the systems, assemblies or components. Verifies that incoming material is what was requested.
  • Maintains records on oncoming goods and vendor quality, selects products for test at specified stages in the production process, and tests for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance and mechanical characteristics.
  • Rejects defective parts, documents rejection and works with engineering to determine if parts can be used in other applications or re-worked to quality standards through collaboration with Material Review Board (MRB) Team.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, diagrams and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards. Uses this information to identify discrepancies and deficiencies. Assembles pertinent material and information used for inspection and reporting.
  • Supports preparation of quality inspection sheets and procedures for critical inspection criteria/components.
  • Maintains accurate records/documentation and follows documented procedures and standards to support MRB and supplier Non-conformance process.
  • Supports the production and Quality teams through proper utilization of the ISO 9001 governed Quality Management System.


  • Accountable and responsible for all safety and environmental compliance as it relates to the position. Demonstrates knowledge of general safety, security, and environmental regulations.


  •  High school graduate or equivalent. Associate’s degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) years experience in manufacturing or related industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •  Blue print reading and understanding of specialized technical instruction to support the development of inspection and testing techniques.
  •  Knowledge of inspection methods and the ability to use various basic measuring instruments and gauges. Understands their application in inspection methods.
  •  Familiarity with sampling plans.
  •  Familiar with material traceability requirements.
  •  Experience working with quality systems such as ASME and ISO.
  •  Experience working with ASTM Standards and EN10204 Standards for traceability.
  •  Intermediate to advanced computer skills with the ability to be highly organized.
  •  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, reports and specifications.
  •  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Experience working within JD Edwards is a plus.

Certifications Preferred/Required:

None required. Appropriate ASQ (American Society for Quality) certification a plus.
