Lean Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

Responsible for leading continuous improvement activities, Kaizen events and establishing measurements for operational performance within manufacturing. Primary resource for supporting the business in its lean journey.  Evaluates, prioritizes, and organizes, all manufacturing / industrial engineering and process engineering activities.  Also manages and directs facility capital projects for equipment and machinery and facility upgrade projects.

Essential Job Functions:


Work closely with operations and manufacturing engineering department to design and implement solutions to enhance operational performance.



Engages with employees to enhance the Lean culture and create an inclusive environment which encourages feedback to drive positive change



Ensure the development of a robust Lean Future State Strategy



Ensure adherence to lean manufacturing standards for the operation including , Value Stream Mapping, enabling a PDCA culture and progression of the lean manufacturing facility


Other Job Functions:


  • Demonstrates a strong bias for action with fostering a safety first culture as part of the plant safety committee and actively drives continuous improvement with Gemba walks, Behavioral Based Safety, ISO 140001, ISO 18001 and the 6s system.
  • Provide Management with reports and status updates as needed to communicate progress on manufacturing goals and objectives including delivering annual T/OE and OEE improvement targets.
  • Work closely with Director of Supply to ensure alignment of activities and manufacturing objectives and strategies
  • Directs manufacturing support engineers as necessary regarding CNC program improvements to improve throughput and tooling performance; evaluates equipment for modification and/or installation and manages the change review process for capital projects.
  • Guides the manufacturing engineering team to make decisions to continuously improve production processes and remove waste with the goal of improving output and product quality, elevating production constraints, and reducing costs to deliver profitable real terms growth.
  • Track the results of lean improvement efforts to ensure that improvements are sustained


  • Educate operations and manufacturing team on Lean Manufacturing principles and practices
  • Establish operational performance metrics to provide visibility of performance and efficiency
  • Train and educate the workforce on Lean tools and concepts; and serves as main resource for the culture of continuous improvement
  • Support problem-solving activities on manufacturing floor and throughout all business functions
  • Supports the plant quality continuous improvement efforts seeking to actively improve process capability and 6 sigma results. Actively participates in driving to eliminate customer pain points and improve the total quality experience for the customer.
  • Facilitates 6s plant showcase efforts to deliver continuous improvement in the 6s system.


  • Directs Assigned Lean Manufacturing projects to achieve targeted saving
  • Lead continuous improvement projects using Lean and / or Six Sigma techniques and employee engagement
  • Present product / program strategies, Lean roadmaps, risks, and recommendations to senior leaders across the Value Streams
  • Benchmark Lean initiatives both internally and externally

Job Requirements:


Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering


5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing environment with management responsibility

Specialized Skills:

A demonstrated understanding of Lean principles such as Value Stream Mapping, Just-In-Time, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, Five S’s, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Continuous Improvement Process, Kaizen, SPC, Six Sigma and Communication Tools, Statistical and Problem Solving.

Mechanical aptitude needed in order to offer technical direction in the areas of machinery repair, equipment failure and malfunction and process improvement; ability to read schematics and building blueprints.


Lean Six Sigma Certification Preferred
