Blowdown - why bother?
As steam boils off, all the contaminants in the boiler water are left behind and gradually build up in concentration, which is called Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). If the TDS level becomes too high, foam forms in the steam space, which then produces wet, contaminated steam. Contaminants are deposited on heating elements and equipment within the steam system, cutting plant productivity and ruining steam system efficiency.

New plate heat exchanger for high temperature steam
A range of plate heat exchangers for heating water using industrial steam and which requires just 10% of the installation space needed for a shell and tube exchanger, has been launched by Spirax Sarco and Alfa Laval Thermal. A unique plate geometry maximises the available contact area with the secondary side, enabling efficient and accurate control across a wide range of temperatures.
