Boiler Level Controls and Alarms

It is both a safety and a regulatory requirement to control the water level in a steam boiler.

As a shell boiler generates steam the level naturally drops. If the water level is allowed to become too low, the tubes are exposed, resulting in costly damage or even boiler explosion.

To prevent these dangers, the water level in the boiler must be carefully monitored and controlled, and provision made to shut down the boiler in the event of the water level falling to an unacceptable level.
