What does BG01 mean for you?

The "Guidance on Safe Operation of Boilers" (BG01), published in October 2011 replaces the now withdrawn PM5 and PSG2 guidance documents. Drafted by the Combustion Engineering Association (CEA) and the Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed) and with the full endorsement of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), BG01 is a best practice guide for boiler managers and operators.

BG01 should be used in conjunction with the HSE's "Management of Industrial and Hot Water Boilers" (INDG436).

BG01 affects any facility with an industrial or commercial steam and hot water boiler operating between 0.5 and 32 bar gauge and at a temperature between 110°C and 400°C.

How can Spirax Sarco help?

Training

Spirax Sarco is a licensed and approved training provider for the Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) as recommended by BG01. Four-day BOAS-accredited courses run at our new state-of-the-art UK Steam Technology Centre in Cheltenham.

Risk Assessment

Risk assessments help to demonstrate to insurers and regulators that a boiler house is being run according to best practice. Any changes, for example, to personnel levels, personnel skills or equipment will require a review of previous risk assessments. When developing your risk assessment our team of steam experts can help, from the combustion or efficiency side of the boiler house, to accessibility and manning levels.
